Forstenite…The Tanzanite Wanna-be
Forstenite is a Man-Made gemstone and produced by Morion Co. www.morioncompany.com
In rough form it’s $7.00 a carat. Considering a good cutter loses up to 65% weight when cutting a piece of rough, that makes this an expensive substitute for the real thing. However, it is now very difficult to find Tanzanite rough in these sizes that are facet grade. It was easy to cut, but difficult to polish. At least with the techniques and equipment I used. Enjoy!

This is a beautiful substitute. Are you saying that this is more expensive
then the real Tanzinite?
What is the size of the stone in the picture above?
How much would this stone in 14K yellow gold cost?

Lois,
No…not as expensive as the real thing,,,but for a man made it is up there.
almost 7mm’s round…over a carat in weight
I’m not a goldsmith..so I don’t know what it would cost you to put it in gold. I just cut them (the stones)
flawless real tanz. is difficult to find now…and very expensive. (more than I would want to pay for it anyway)
